Solar Tower Starts Up in IAU Mashhad Branch

A solar research updraft tower has been inaugurated by IAU officials in the Golbahar International Complex of Islamic Azad University, Mashhad branch.

635710169097893602This solar tower, which is 14 meters high and 11 meters wide, was constructed by Mohammad Kavianpour, M.A. student of Energy under the supervision of Dr. Kazem Bashirnejad, assistant professor and faculty member of the Mashhad branch.

The tower is designed to measure the effect of parameters which influence performance in the solar updraft method, such as collector size , air inlet opening, and utilization of  heat-saving materials in the collector.

635710168550332640Dr. Bashirnejad explained that the two main components of the system are a solar collector and a tower, “the air is heated in the collector, moves into the tower and then exits. Turbines which have been set up inside the tower are powered by the air flow and produce electricity.”

Dr. Ali Zarif, director of the research center, and Dr. Mohammad Bahari, chief of the IAU Golbahar complex, accompanied faculty members and also visited previous projects including a solar water heating system, desalination system and a diesel fuel production machine.
