Alexandria University: Virtual Branch of Western Universities in Egypt

Saturday, January 6, 2018 - 16:13

Alexandria University, is one of the largest universities in Egypt and the third university which was launched after Al Qahira and the American University in Cairo.

According to an ISCA report, more than 20 colleges with various majors including social sciences, medicine, engineering and mathematics are in this university.

Damanhur and Mersa Matruh are two national branches of this university while the university is planning to run its international branches in Juba, Capital of South Sudan and N'Djamena, Capital of Chad.

Based on The Times, a British daily national newspaper, ranking, Alexandria ranked 93 among the best universities in developing countries and placed 303 in world ranking.

Ahmed Hassan Zewail, father of femtochemistry, who was awarded the 1999 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on femtochemistry, graduated from this university.

Dr. Essam Ahmed Mahmoud El-Kurdi, President of Alexandria University, and Professor of Structural Analysis, Department of Structural Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, received a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Alexandria in 1981 and was appointed as a lecturer in the same year, In Structural Engineering from Alexandria University in 1985, and then Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Northwestern University 1992.

He was the supervisor of the implementation of Virginia Tech agreement with the Ministry of Higher Education and Alexandria University (2008-2009), also the implementation of the international educational system in the Egyptian Nile schools with the University of Cambridge UK 2009-2012, as well as signing an agreement with the French Cultural Center on the implementation of the French language agreement in the Egyptian Nile schools 2011.

This report does not intend to discuss the correctness or inaccuracy of the thoughts of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt but the main question is that, should not the university’s approach, which is expanding Western Culture in Cairo, be questioned?

Therefore, it can be noted that purposeful development of westerns ideas in the Middle East, especially in one of the most populous countries in the Muslim world, referred to scientific influence, which has targeted educational system, social and political arena, especially the Muslim world.
