The city is best known for its unique arrangement of towns and villages built along the mountain slopes of the region. The pomegranate tree is native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region of Asia, Africa and Europe. It has been central to Iranian life, cuisine and poetry for centuries. Its health benefits have become well-known in recent years, but Iranians have always described it as “mive-ye beheshti”, the “heavenly fruit”. As Sohrab Sepehri, one of the many poets who has used the fruit’s imagery, wrote, “I break a pomegranate and say to myself, I wish the people revealed the seeds of their hearts as it does. The pomegranate juice springs into my eye, I shed tears.”

Huge crowds of Iranian people took part in a funeral ceremony in Tehran held for Mohsen Hojaji, the Iranian soldier who was beheaded by the ISIS terrorist group in Syria. Several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani, Judiciary chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani, Head of Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs Mohammad Ali Shahidi, participating in the ceremony on behalf of President Hassan Rouhani, as well as Secretary of Iran's Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei, Commander of the Ground Force of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, Judiciary Spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, Head of Passive Defense Organization Brigadier General Gholamreza Jalali, were among the dignitaries attended the funeral ceremony. Ayatollah Khamenei prayed for the soul of Hojajji and condoled with his bereaved family who were present by the martyr's coffin at the Imam Hussein Mosque in central Tehran. Hojajji, 25, a military advisor known in Iran as the holy shrine defender, was taken hostage in August 7 and beheaded two days later on camera by Daesh terrorists.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei attended the funeral of Mohsen Hojaji, a young IRGC adviser beheaded by the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group in Syria and paid his respect to the martyr who gave his life in the fight against terrorism. Iranians have held a large funeral procession in the capital, Tehran, in honor of iconic martyr Mohsen Hojaji, who was beheaded by the Takfiri Daesh terror group in Syria last month. Imam Khamenei also met the family of the revered young martyr and praised their fortitude. Hojaji will be buried in his hometown of Najafabad in Isfahan Province in central Iran.
