Ga2Se3 Powder produced by IAU S&R for Solar Use

Mehrdad Monsefi, postgraduate in Physics from Science and Research IAU Branch and faculty member of Islamic Azad University, Karaj Branch has succeeded in producing Gallium Selenide Powder (with chemical formula Ga2Se3) in lab which are usable in production of solar cells.


According to Azad News Agency (ANA), quoting Monsefi, “Gallium selenide is a semiconductor that is used in production of CIGS solar cells. The main characteristics of this substance are its semi-conduction and its cheapness; it could be produced domestically at very low prices and there is no need to import it.”

“Selenium evaporates when heated and this causes solar cells to deteriorate gradually but the selenide form is more stable and its use can make the absorbent layer of solar cells more stable,” he stated.

Thanks to its semi-conductor properties, gallium selenide powder is also useful in making electronic components such as transistors and diodes.
