IAU Karateka Bags Silver Medal in Japan

Zabihollah Poursheib, member of IAU karate team and Iranian representative in the men’s minus 84k kumite tournament, picked up a silver medal at the Karate1 Premier League in Japan.

According to Iran Student Correspondents Association (ISCA), after defeating his New Zealand opponent one to nil in the final bout of the men’s under-84-kilogram kumite at the Nippon Budokan arena in Okinawa, Japan, Poursheib succeeded in winning in his second round against Japanese competitor, Koki Yamaguchi, with the same record.

In his third competition, he tied 0-0 against his Serbian rival and consequently progressed to the final round.

In the final encounter of the men’s minus 84-kilogram, Poursheib was defeated 1-6 by Ryutaro Araga, his Japanese rival, and settled for silver.

The Karate1 Premier League opened in Okinawa, on November 28, and will conclude on November 29. The international sporting event has reportedly attracted 207 karate fighters from 38 countries, including Azerbaijan, Taipei, Iran, Japan, New Zealand and Serbia.
