Najafabad IAU Student Becomes Int’l Chess Master

Nima Javanbakht, Najafabad IAU student, has been recognized as an international chess master.

According to ANA (Azad News Agency), Javanbakht, who is a student of industrial engineering stated that he is preparing himself for taking the gold medal at the 2016 World University Championships, which will be held in the UAE on April 7-15, 2016.

“Based on the last evaluation of the World Chess Federation, my rating is 2428, which I believe shows how much chess has developed and grown strong in the country,” he said.

Javanbakht succeeded in bringing home the bronze medal of the Asian Youth Championship in Kyrgyzstan and taking the gold medal at the IAU Student tournaments in Bushehr.

The 14th World University Chess Championship will be held by the WUCC in Abu Dhabi – United Arab Emirates, under the patronage of Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Culture Youth and Community Development and the President of Arab University Sports Federation and the auspices of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The Chess tournaments shall be organised in accordance with the most recent technical regulations of the “Fédération internationale des échecs" (FIDE).
