Student of Central Tehran IAU Makes Nanocapsules and Nanoadsorbent

Saturday, June 4, 2016 - 21:54

An Organic Chemistry student of Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran branch has succeeded to create Medicinal nanocapsules which enhance the effect of the medicine with natural essences.

According to ANA, Saba Safari Babel, MS student of organic chemistry, stated that the nanocomposite could be used for medicine production and also provided Nano polymeric materials with encapsulation capabilities, so the effect of medicine can be enhanced using natural essences. Essences such as lemon balm, dill, rosemary, thyme, and coriander increase drug absorption levels.

“Medicines which are used for treating diseases such as high blood lipid may have side effects like arthritis and abdominal pain, but natural materials such as dill and coriander can be used in nanocapsules and are quickly absorbed into the body,” she explained, adding that the capsules were in animal test phases.

Safari has also succeeded in producing Nano adsorbent material for preventing environmental pollution. The materials are injected into filters to absorb harmful gases. These nanomaterials are made from iron oxide nanomagnets, making the materials recyclable and reusable.

“In conventional methods, centrifuges and filter are used for separating materials, which is extremely expensive. But using iron oxide nanomagnets allows for a cheap, effective separation 50 to 60 percent of that cost,” she added.
