Urmia IAU Paralympian Upgrades his World Record

Siamand Rahman, student of Islamic Azad University, Urmia branch, has broken his previous world weightlifting record .

According to an ANA report, Rahman, who is famous as the world's most powerful paralympian, lifted a 305Kg weight and broke his own world record by 8 Kg on the final day of the training camp for the national weightlifting team of veterans and persons with disabilities.

Dr. Aziz Javanpour, the head of West Azerbaijan board of persons with disabilities and Urmia IAU, accompanied the governor-general of West Azerbaijan in visiting the camp and spoke with athletes and the team technical staff.

“It is great honor for the IAU that Siamand Rahman, the world’s strongest person with disability and one of the heroes of the country, is a student of this university. We hope to see more of the same spirit of chivalry and heroism that Mr. Rahman has shown within the academic community,” said Dr. Javanpour.

The 16th Training camp for the national weightlifting team of veterans and persons with disabilities for Rio Paralympic Games 2016 was held in the Aria Hotel in Urmia, under the coaching of Mr. Ahmad Deljavan.
