IAU Student Bags Gold at Rio 2016 Paralympic Games

Islamic Azad University MA student , Majid Farzin, won a gold medal in men's 80kg powerlifting at the Rio Paralympic games.

Majid Farzin lifted 230 kilograms in his first attempt, triumphing against all other participants with distinction as well as setting a new Paralympic record. He then requested 235 kilograms for his second trial to once more improve his own record.

He lifted the 240-kilogram weight in his third attempt to break both Paralympics and world records. He came out first in thr Men's 80kg powerlifting competition at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sept. 12, 2016.

“I trained intensely for months to get this medal. I thank God that all my earlier efforts finally bore fruit, and I could bring honor to my family and nation,” Farzin said after the contest.

The Iranian Paralympic squad have so far won eight medals at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, including three golds and five silvers.
