Shahr-Rey IAU Shines at Linz at 23rd World Senior Championships

A student of Islamic Azad University, Shahr-Rey branch, won a gold medal at the 23rd World Senior Championships at Linz, Austria.

Amir Mehdizadeh participated in the men’s minus 60-kg kumite contests at the indoor TipsArena Linz in the northwestern Austrian city of Linz and triumphed over his Dutch opponent in the 60kg weight class with a 9-1 result and won the gold medal of this tournament, ISCA reports.

“All the World Championships are always held at the highest technical level with the presence of the world's best Karatekas - none of which should be underestimated,” he noted and stated that he had tried hard to bag the best medal.

The 23rd edition of the Karate World Championships began in Linz, Austria, on October 25, and finished on October 30, 2016. The sports event has brought together about 2,000 athletes and coaches from 135 nations.
