Bojnord SAMA IAU Bags Gold in 1st Pahlavani Wrestling World Championship

A PE student of Islamic Azad University, SAMA College bagged gold at the first edition of Pahlavani Wrestling World Championship in Belarus.

As ISCA reports, Hamid Elahian won the gold medal after overcoming Russian competitor Imam Adzhiev in the final bout of 70-kilogram weight category.

Esmaeil Nejatian gained the upper hand against Turkish rival Ahmet Bilici in the final contest and snatched another gold, Javad Mahjoub and Ahmad Mirzapour also took two more gold medals in the 100-kilogram and over 100-kilogram weight divisions, respectively.

Jalal Alizadeh was downed by technical fall at the hand of Azerbaijani opponent Jalal Suleymanov and received the silver medal in the final contest of 60-kilogram weight category. Ahmad Jafakesh also earned a bronze medal in the 80-kilogram weight section.

The Iranian outfit stood on top of the podium with a total of six (four gold, one silver and one bronze) medals, having collected 57 points. Turkey finished in the second place, and Russia landed in the third spot.

The first edition of Pahlavani Wrestling World Championship opened in the Belarusian capital of Minsk on November 10 and finished on November 13, 2016.

The tournament attracted wrestlers from 45 world countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cuba, Estonia, France, Georgia, Hungary, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, the United States and Uzbekistan.
