Dr. Nourian in ASAIHL 2017 Message:

Sustainable Development is Possible by Utilizing Human Resources and Higher Educational Capacities

The 61st Annual Meeting and Conference of The Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) is being held in Hasanuddin University Makassar, in 16 - 19 May, 2017.

According to an ISCA report, the ASAIHL 61st Annual Meeting and Conference started its activity with the message of IAU acting president and head of ASAIHL, Dr. Ali Mohammad Nourian. He stated that ASAIHL is moving steadily toward developing cooperation and exchanging experience in the field of higher education among countries.

Dr. Nourian continued that qualitization, applied research and internationalizing education are among the main current activities of leading universities. It is obvious that those universities which benefit higher educational potential, knowledge-based economy and their internal resources for economic development would be successful. Accessibility, equality, relevance and connection between courses and their material, and focus on applicability are indices by which universities are compared, and in this competition, it is necessary to create new academic programs in line with social needs and attaining knowledge-based economies.

The head of ASAIHL highlighted the importance of constant monitoring, evaluation and optimizing the use of extant resources as tools to construct practices and models for enhancing quality and international interactions by universities.

The acting president of IAU also noted that this association plays a key role in developing educational institutes through exchanging experiences and presenting higher educational models, and that participating researchers and presenters of articles and speeches at the conference will help boost the development of higher education.

The Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL) was founded in 1956 as a non-governmental organization at a meeting in Bangkok of the heads of eight state universities in Southeast Asia.

As one of the largest academic associations at the international level, ASAIHL works to assist member institutions to strengthen themselves through mutual self-help and to achieve international distinction in teaching, research and public service. In so doing, the institutions contribute strength to their respective nations and to the entire region. Specifically, the Association exists to foster the development of the institutions themselves, the cultivation of a sense of regional identity and interdependence and liaison with other regional and international organizations concerned with research and teaching.
