The captain and goalkeeper of Iran futsal national team have received the award for the best player and best final player respectively in the AFC U-20 Futsal Championship.

According to an ANA report, Iran put on a stirring display against Mongolian opponents who had previously defeated the United Arab Emirates one day earlier.

The futsal squad of Iran took a 5-0 lead in the first half as Mohammad Taheri, Sahand Rezapour, captain Tohid Lotfi and Hamzen Kadkhoda found the net at Hua Mark Indoor Stadium of Bangkok. Despite Mongolia’s efforts, Mahdi Karimi bagged a sixth for Iran in the 30th minute to show Iran’s capability in advancing to the tournament’s next phase.

The victory was Iran’s seventh straight success at the tournament, an imperious run of form that leaves the country proud owner of both the U-20 and senior AFC Futsal Championship crowns, the-afc.com reported.

Iran defended resolutely and maintained its lead going into the break, with Mohammad Jame' and skipper Tohid Lotfi’s excellent partnership in the final third then threatening to put the game beyond Iraq after the restart.

The event marks the first edition of the AFC U-20 Futsal Championship, the biennial international futsal championship organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's youth national teams of Asia.

The tournament will serve as qualifying for the futsal tournament at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, with the winner and the runner-up qualifying for the boys' tournament, where they will be represented by their U-18 representative teams.
