Iran Ranks 3rd in 2017 IChO

The Iranian chemistry team has ranked 3rd at the 2017 International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Thailand.

High school students of Iran won a silver and three gold medals in this event that attracted 297 students from 76 countries, Mehr News reports.

Amirhossein Behnoush, Parsa Pirouz, Amirabbas Kazeminia brought home gold trophies as well as Soroush Baniani who earned a silver medal.

The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is an annual competition for the world’s most talented chemistry students at the secondary school level.

The program is intended to stimulate student interest in chemistry through independent and creative solving of chemical problems. It also aims to promote international contacts in chemistry, friendships between young scientific workers of different nationalities, cooperation among pupils, and exchange of pedagogical and scientific experience in chemistry.

The 49th International Chemistry Olympiad was held in 6 - 15 July 2017, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand.
