Dr. Farhad Rahbar Appointed to IAU Presidency by Trustee Majority

The IAU board of trustees introduced Dr. Farhad Rahbar as the president of Islamic Azad University to the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution.

According to an ISCA report, the IAU board of trustees meeting has been held with the presence of most of its members and Dr. Farhad Rahbar has been appointed as the IAU president by trustee majority. The board also expressed its appreciation of Dr. Nourian's efforts during this time.

According to Note 2, Article 13 of the IAU statute, members of IAU board of trustees have only 3 months to introduce a new university president to the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution in the case of dismissal or resignation of a standing president. Following the discharge of Dr. Hamid Mirzadeh, in April 23, 2017, the IAU board of trustees was to present the new candidate by July 25, 2017.

The Head of IAU Board of Trustees and Directors Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati appointed Dr. Ali Mohammad Nourian as the acting president during this time.

Dr. Farhad Rahbar, born in 5 October 1959 in Semnan province, Iran, is an economist, academic, member of IAU board of trustees and the former Chancellor of University of Tehran. He received his PhD in Economics from University of Tehran. Previously, Rahbar was the head of the Management and Planning Organization of Iran. He has also worked as the Deputy for economic affairs at the Ministry of Intelligence.

He was also active in the Jahad of Construction, Islamic Revolution Housing Foundation, Ministry of Commerce, working as economic expert and consultant to the Prime Minister, general director of economic investigations at the Center for Strategic Studies, the deputy of economic affairs at the Ministry of Intelligence, and as head of the National Content Consortium.
