Mianeh IAU Students End individual Career with Gold

Iran’s Saeid Rajabi trounced Lee Seung-hwan in the 87-kg category to win his second consecutive Universiade gold.

According to an ISCA report, students of Mianeh Islamic Azad University have put in glowing performances at the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade and ranked first at the end of the high-status international event.

Rajabi is a two-time Asian World Championships gold medalist, and won gold at the last Universiade in the 80-kg event. Chinese Taipei's Liu Wei-ting lost to Rajabi in both last year's World Championships and at the previous Universiade.

Mirhashem Hosseini in the men's 63kg weight class gold medal match, overcame his South Korean rival, 29-11, and he then defeated his Indian opponent, 20-0, as well as beating a competitor from Chile 20-0. In the final stage, he contended with Lucas Guzmán, Argentina, with the result of 17-5 and won the gold medal in this tournament. The two proudly waved their national flag together.

The Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade includes the following 14 compulsory sports (athletics, basketball, fencing, football, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, aquatics (swimming, open water), water polo, diving, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, and taekwondo), 7 optional sports (archery, badminton, baseball, golf, roller sports, weightlifting and wushu) and 1 demonstration sport (billiards) chosen by the host city.
