Karaj IAU Students Develop Academic Projects: Indirect Dryer, Sun Tracker and Drift Car

The head of Mechatronics Engineering department of Karaj Islamic Azad University has announced on making and developing three different functional projects in this unit.

According to an ANA report, Dr. Mehrdad Abbassi pointed to the various academic projects of MS mechanical engineering students of Karaj IAU who designed and made Indirect Dryer, Sun Tracker and Drift Car, and noted that the university fully supports the projects and plans of all interested students.

Dr. Mehrdad Abbassi explained that Indirect Dryer device, created by Mohammad Reza Dalil-Azar, MS student of electrical engineering, can indirectly dry exporting products like nuts, through using sunlight in a closed placed and produces perfectly healthy products.

Most of the agricultural produce such as grains, spices, fruits and vegetables are dried under the sun. However, drying these products directly under the open sun has many drawbacks such as debris, rain, blowing wind, insect infestation, human and animal interference etc. By the use of solar dryers, such problems can be easily overcome.

He continued that Sun Tracker device, which is made by Arash Zare-Dar, is a device for orienting a solar panel or concentrating a solar reflector or lens towards the sun. There is a computer processor that calculates light intensity collides on solar panels and automatically moves to “track” the progress of the sun across the sky.

Dr. Abbassi finally mentioned the Drift Car created by Mehdi Sarfaraz, and said that the project aimed at investigating the effect of conical springs on mechanical behavior of the system in two techniques: experimental and simulation.

Car drifting is caused when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle, to such an extent that often the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right or vice versa, also known as opposite lock or counter-steering).
