Najafabad IAU, UT, and Malaysian Scholars Co-op in Research Project

Researchers of Najafabad Islamic Azad University and University of Tehran in cooperation with some Malaysian scholars have synthesized Novel nanostructured baghdadite-vancomycin scaffolds: In-vitro drug release, antibacterial activity and biocompatibility.

According to an ISCA report, these Novel nanostructured baghdadite-vancomycin scaffolds can prevent bacterial growth and replication which cause bone infections.

One of the most important therapeutic and economic concerns regarding surgery, is the occurrence of post-operative infections which leads to an increase in premature failure rate. Therefore, novel nanostructured baghdadite-vancomycin (Ba-Vac) scaffolds were prepared using the space holder method with good mechanical properties and controlled drug release to inhibit post-surgery infections.

The faculty member of Najafabad IAU, Dr. Hamid Reza Bakhsheshi-Rad, explained that in this research, the scaffolds have been synthesized with high mechanical, antimicrobial and biocompatibility properties which is also possible to release the drug at the same time. Vancomycin, used in this project, is able to kill the bacteria through attacking to Staphylococcus aureus.

The research was carried out by Dr. Hamid Reza Bakhsheshi-Rad, Zhina Hadisi and Majid Kashefian, Students of Tehran University, Aliakbar Najafinezhad, student of Najafabad IAU, and some Malaysian researchers.
