‘Iran-Germany Science Day’ began in Tehran’s University of Science and Technology on Tuesday to promote interdisciplinary and joint research activities and to intensify the exchange in scientific research between Iran and Germany, through various activities such as Matchmaking by Funding Instrument, and Subject area.

According to an ISCA report, Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) that was assigned by the Iranian Ministry of Science and Technology (MSRT) as Leading House for Iran Germany Academic Collaboration held the first Iran-Germany Science Day (IGSD-2018) as annual bilateral event in national level on 27 and 28 February 2018.

The two-day event is being held with 60 faculty members from Germany and 150 Iranian scientists in attendance, ISNA reported.

A set of scientific projects have been defined which will be discussed in the event to further facilitate the scientific cooperation of the two country.

The scientific and educational ties between Iran and Germany have a long 100-year history, said German Ambassador to Iran Michael Klor-Berchtold who took part in the inauguration ceremony of the event.

From 2015 (after signing the JCPOA also known as the nuclear deal), the two nations have tried hard to revive their relations, said Klor-Berchtold, adding that it’s time to enter a new phase of cooperation especially in science and research areas.

IGSD hopes to allow the participants to learn more about Iranian and German funding systems and opportunities for distinguished scientists and professors of various scientific fields, to exchange policies, ideas, achievements and challenges on previous, current and future science and technology cooperation.

Moreover, this event hopes to act as a platform for doctoral and postdoctoral candidates, to engage with the Iranian and German research landscapes, to get meaningful insight for their future research, and feedback on existing and previous cooperation between Iran and Germany.
