Iran-Austria Program Accepts Najafabad IAU Faculty Research Proposal

Tuesday, March 13, 2018 - 12:24

A research proposal of faculty member of Islamic Azad University, Najafabad branch, has been accepted in Iran-Austria joint program.

According to an ISCA report, this investigation, “Influence of plastic anisotropy on the mechanical behavior of clinched joint of different coated thin steel sheets” was carried out by Dr. Saeid Saberi in cooperation with Graz University of Technology, one of five universities in Styria, Austria.

As Dr. Saberi explained, the The main purpose of using different types of surface conditions (blank, electro galvanized, corrosion protection primer (CPP) coated), is to analyze their influences on the geometry and mechanical strength of the clinched joint.

Finite element analysis (ABAQUSExplicit) is used to model the clinching process as well as the subsequent loading of the joint in the shear and cross tension test.

The influence of the plastic anisotropy of the material is analyzed by evaluation of the punch force-displacement curve and the strength of clinched joint under these loading conditions.

He continued that the analysis of the research can be useful in predicting technical and mechanical strength.

Referring to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (MSRT) policies on further expanding scientific cooperation with Austria, Prof. Salar Amoli, acting Minister for International Scientific Cooperation, stated exchange of academics, and students for short-term periods of 6-9 months, with mutual support of ministries of both countries, as MSRT’s priorities for such cooperation.

Iran and Austrian delegates also defined the Joint Action Plans on scientific cooperation between the two countries, where supporting more joint research projects were also discussed and 78 joint research projects have been defined.

Almost 200 years of research and teaching in society's service make Graz University of Technology one of Austria's most venerable scientific institutions. The University's success throughout its eventful history has been based upon the achievements of outstanding personalities in science, research and their application.
