Students from Islamic Azad University, Shiraz branch, presented the prototype of a flying smartphone in the 13th RoboCup Iran Open competitions held at Tehran International Fair in April 3-7, 2018.

According to an ISCA report, this research plan has been carried out by Seyed Mohsen Roosta, Mohammad Bahmani in cooperation with the head of Darian IAU, Dr. Ghaedi.

Roosta explained that there are some bugs in controlling UAVs which they will be no longer possible to control in long distances. As he said, although the current systems are equipped with modules and sensors, they are only able to fly in short routes.

This researcher noted that those modules and sensors were replaced with a smartphone with many capabilities such as sensor, camera, GPS and etc. This phone contacts the operator through the Internet and can detect the obstacles with its artificial intelligence. In fact, internet itself controls everything and the system does not require permanent control.

Researchers hope to develop this UAV to get it to the operational stage.
