A self-driving, autonomous wheelchair developed by the Robocup team of Shiraz Islamic Azad University became runner-up in RoboCup Iran Open 2018.

According to an ISCA report, this robot was created with artificial intelligence and sensors to detect nearby obstacles and is equipped with eye pupil detection system to control wheel chair for physically challenged persons.

There are eye tracking mechanisms to compute the position of pupil. This motion control system can support safe and smooth movement of the wheelchair by automatically calculating its direction of motion and velocity, to avoid obstacles and move in the gaze direction of the passenger.

The team was led by Dr. Mohammad Hossein Shakour and Mohammad Reza Bahmani was the supervisor of the team. Mohammad Taghi Momemi, Mohammad Reza Safavi, Alireza Tabe Bordbar, Najme Sadeghpour, Sahar Yousefi and Moslem Mohammadi were the members of the team.
