Mianeh IAU Students Shine in 2018 Asian Taekwondo C’ship

Two students of Mianeh Islamic Azad University have demonstrated amazing displays at the 2018 Asian Taekwondo Championships in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

According to an ISCA report, Amir-Mohammad Bakhshi, representing Iran in the men’s -68kg contests, outclassed South Korea’s Kim Jae-seok 28-11 in the final bout to grab a gold medal in his debut in the Asian championships.

In addition, Saied Rajabi had to settle for a third-spot finish in the men’s +87kg weight class after he was beaten by his South Korean opponent 12-7 in the semifinals.

A total of eight medals and 32 points gave Iran a second-place finish in the men’s division following South Korea which clinched two gold medals and two bronzes to earn 42 points. Uzbekistan finished third with 31 points.

The 23rd Asian Taekwondo Championship was held by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports and the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation from May 24-28. The tournament attracted nearly 700 athletes from 50 countries and territories.
