Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi:

IAU Educational System Needs to be Reformed

Tuesday, August 21, 2018 - 11:53

The acting president of Islamic Azad University has stated that the university’s educational system needs to change so we are expected not only to manage the system but also to reform that.

According to IAU public relations, the first IAU Board of Directors Meeting, headed by Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, was held with the presence of IAU deputies in the university's Central Organization.

In this meeting, Dr. Tehraanchi stated that IAU is responsible for half of the country's higher education system, therefore it must be noticed that carrying out science and research activities required organized management.

The IAU acting president referred to the meeting of Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, with academically outstanding university students, as well as members of the National Elite Foundation (2016), who emphasized:

“We should not allow this scientific movement to be damaged. This scientific movement has certain enemies. If this scientific movement becomes subject to enmities and if we do not notice and protect it, this will produce a very heavy and bitter result. Do you know what that result is? That result is the generation of hopelessness in the young forces of the country. If this feeling of hopelessness is generated, then fixing and stitching it up will not be very easy. A feeling of hope has emerged in the young, scholarly and studious society of the country in recent years.”

Dr. Tehrani continued that as Ayatollah Khamenei noted in a meeting with university professors, outstanding personalities and academic researchers, held on the 25th day of the holy month of Ramadan:

“Universities are one of the important centers for cultivating the intellectual faculty of the country. They are in charge of cultivating the intellectual faculty of the country. And no country is able to manage itself and to make progress without an intellectual faculty. Notice that these two introductions lead to one conclusion and that is the fact that good universities are vital for every country.

“Well, university professors have an extraordinary role in universities. In the process of building and cultivating the intellectual faculty for the management of the country, university professors have a special role. Therefore, the position of university professors is very important, valuable and sensitive. It is a sensitive position. If universities wish to play this role the role of creating and cultivating the intellectual faculty of the country correctly, there are certain requirements which they should definitely pay attention to. I have written down three requirements which I will explain briefly:

“One requirement is getting involved in the issues of the country. Universities should not think that they are separate from the issues of the country. The issues and challenges of the country should be real, true and fundamental issues for universities.

“The second requirement is the cultural, moral and identity-based cultivation of students. The issue of moral education is more important than scientific education. And this should be done with a moral and spiritual orientation, with a spiritual delicacy and sensitivity and by reviving a sense of identity in all young students.

“The third requirement is a continuous change in the academic environment. There should be a continuous and permanent change in the academic environment. The first reason for this is that all associations in the world need to change. This is because humans are constantly changing, progressing and moving forward. So, all human associations should enable themselves to change in a constant manner and this should be a serious concern for them. Secondly, to put it frankly, the foundations of our universities are faulty. The foundations have been faulty from the beginning.”

Dr. Tehranchi added that human resource training, increasing documented knowledge, problem solving and social and individual excellence are his four main pillars and declared that IAU must move toward training professional managers, also social skills to provide a suitable situation for Institutional managment.
