Iran kabaddi teams won gold medals in both men's and women's kabaddi championships at the Jakarta Palembang 2018 Asian Games.

Iran kabaddi teams snatched gold medal in both men's and women's kabaddi championships. The Iranian men's team secured a strong 26-16 victory over South Korea in the final, becoming the Asian kabaddi champions. Iranians put away the Indian team in the semi-finals, ending that team’s dominant run at the event, Press TV reports.

The Iranian women's kabaddi team also stopped their Indian arch-rivals from winning their third successive gold. The Iranians edged past India 27-24 to avenge their 2014 Asian final defeat against the Indian side. Their victory marks the first time a women's team has beaten India in kabaddi at the Asian Games.

At the 18th Asian Games, which started on August 8 and continues until September 2, Iran has so far won 31 medals, including 12 gold, 11 silver and eight Bronze medals.

Kabaddi is a sport derived from South Asia. Two teams occupy opposite halves of a pitch and take turns sending a “raider” into the other half, in order to win points by tapping members of the opposing team; then the raider tries to return to his own half, holding his breath and chanting the word “Kabaddi” during the whole raid. If the opposing team catches the raider then they get a point. The team with the most points at the end wins.
