The head of Islamic Azad University, Gilan Province has stated that due to the great capacity of the Caspian Sea, the university units have been actively working on “Maritime Tourism”.

According to an ISCA report, Ebrahim Chirani spoke of the IAU president's emphasis on paying attention to food security, stated that Gilan province owns rich potential in agriculture therefore, fundamental actions must be done in some products such as rice, tea and almond to fully supply food security.

Chirani noted that IAU branches in this province are member of Sustainable Development Workgroup so they are working actively in maritime industry. As research and experience both show, investing in the tourism industry has always been a secure financial move so he said, Gilan province must design a comprehensive plan in this field and the universities are focusing to benefit the countries along the sea shores.

Iran enjoys hundreds of kilometers of coastline; the Caspian Sea in the north and the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman in the south. Therefore, Iran could benefit greatly from the income of maritime tourism provided the development of infrastructure and facilities required for expansion of the sector.

Raising public awareness towards this type of tourism, comprehensive introduction of the the country’s maritime potentials and attractions, and support of the government from the sector could be major steps to help prosper the industry.

Promoting Iran’s potential to successfully organize marine tours, bringing attention to the country’s coastlines, and receiving support from the government are steps that need to be taken in order to help maritime tourism prosper and become a source of revenue for Iran.
