40 IAU Unites to Support Student Mothers

IAU president counselor for Women and Family Affairs has stated that 40 IAU units will provide educational services for mothers in new 2019 academic year.

Universities should do more to support student mothers in order to reduce the number that drop out. In her interview with ISCA and Azad News Agency, Dr. Nafiseh Fayazbakhsh stated that an appropriate plan fits with Hazrat Fatima (sa) lifestyle will be presented soon in order to develop women’s social and political context.

Dr. Fayazbakhsh said that running IAU units supporting mothers was the first step taken by the support of IAU president, Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi and as it is approved in IAU board of directors, 40 units will support student mothers and provide educational services for them in new 2019 academic year in order to help them managing a family and her coursework successfully.

In this regard, at least 50% of lessons will be online, she noted and explained that mothers having kids under 6 will receive advantages which one of them is using kindergarten with Islamic and educational standards. Also mothers will be able to benefit the universities’ facilities and libraries even they cannot attend the classes and pass courses.

As she said, the university will plan a system for master and Ph.D. thesis so topics will be chosen from all provinces based on women and family requirements, because Islamic Azad University in the only university providing education opportunities all across the country, even in deprived areas.

Dr. Fayazbakhsh finally added that advised by Dr. Velayati, head of Islamic Azad University, board of trustees and directors, a new major "Islamic Studies of Women and Family" will be run in near future.
