Students of Khorramabad Islamic Azad University have made smart waste bin that can automatically sort recyclable trash.

According to an ISCA report, Hajar Baqeri Toulabi in cooperation with Hadi Kelorani could design and make a smart waste bin for smart waste management that sorts wet and dry waste automatically.

A growing number of cities around the globe are testing smart waste management solutions to create higher efficiency in terms of resources and costs associated with keeping their cities clean. Waste management solution can internationally demonstrate economic, environmental and social benefits.

This bin has been equipped with a recognition system which can distinguish plastics, glass, paper and wood and sorts them automatically. When trash has been thrown, it uses a combination of cameras and sensors to find out what the material is made out of. Then it makes a classification, and deposits the trash into either the recycling bin or landfill waste.
