IAU Students Bag Medals At Asian Wrestling Event

Freestyle and Greco-Roman team of Islamic Azad University won gold and bronze medals at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Xi’an in China.

According to an ISCA report, IAU wrestlers could snatch several gold and bronze medals in the 2019 Asian Wrestling Championships.

IAU freestyle wrestler, Reza Atri (Babol SAMA IAU) claimed a gold medal through defeating Kumsong Kang from North Korea 9-3 in the final match of the 57kg.

Behnam Ehsanpour (Behshahr IAU) took a gold medal in the 61kg after defeating his Chinese rival LIU Minghu 2-1 in the final match. Bahman Teymouri (Harsin IAU) defeated Parveen Rana from India 3-0 in the final match of the 79kg weight category.

In the 92kg, Alireza Karimi (Shahryar IAU) defeated Vicky Chahar from India 11-0 and won gold medal. Also Yadollah Mohebbi (Kermanshah IAU) beat Chinese Deng Zhiwei 2-1 in the final match of the 125kg.

Peyman Biabani (Yadegar-e-Emam IAU) won a bronze medal in the 65kg weight category, defeating Sirojiddin Khasanov from Uzbekistan 3-2. Younes Emami (Shahryar IAU) also claimed a bronze medal in the 70k after defeating Batyr Borjakov from Turkmenistan 11-0.

IAU Greco-Roman wrestler, Mohammad Reza Geraei (Pasargad IAU) defeated China’s Hujun Zhang in the final match of the 72kg. Saeid Abdevali (Andimeshk IAU) also beat Indian Singh Harpeet in the final bout of 82kg.

In the 97kg category, Mehdi Aliyari (Sari IAU) won a bronze medal after beating Alimkhan Syzdykov from Kazakhstan.

The 2019 Asian Wrestling Championships was held in Xi'an, China from April 23 to April 28, 2019.
