The head of IAU board of founders and trustees has stated that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution is expecting Islamic Azad University to implement both teaching and purification simultaneously.

According to an ISCA report, in the 37th edition of IAU founding anniversary, Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati noted that the university must advance not only in terms of quantity, but also in quality of higher education.

He continued that establishment of Islamic Azad University could provide a great situation for applicants to join the higher education programs all across the country, “this led to the growth and development of higher education in the country.”

As he added, IAU has active branches in Afghanistan, UAE and Lebanon and according to the organized plans, many branches will be run in Syria, Iraq, Azerbaijan and some other countries in the region.

Emphasizing on the importance of culture in universities, Dr. Velayati declared that, "When science is aimless, when science does not have a proper objective, it will be dangerous like Western world's science which bring about weapons of mass destruction and weaponry to kill masses of people."

Dr. Velayati also noted that the university must not be the only consumer of other nations’ sciences, but must be the pioneer in the field of education and research to be the students' first choice based on university’s 1404 outlook, (Iran’s 1404 (March 2025-March 2026) Outlook Plan).

The 37th edition of IAU founding anniversary has been held with the theme of “Islamic Azad University, Second Phase of the Islamic Revolution” at IAU Central Organization, in June 12, 2019.
