IAU Karatekas Runner-up in 2019 Asian AKF C’ships

Iranian karatekas won a total of 11 medals and ranked 2nd in the 2019 Asian Karate Federation senior championship.

According to an ISCA report, the 16th edition of AKF Senior Championship 2019 has been held with the presence of nearly 340 competitors from 33 countries.

Iranian National Team finished runner-up through winning 5 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals in the Kumeeteh and Kata categories. Bahman Askari, Mehdi Khodabakhshi, Zabihollah Poursheib and Sajad Ganjzadeh won gold medal.

Ganjzadeh also won a bronze in the Male Kumite +84kg after beating Kyrgyzstan’s Adilet Shadykanov 5-2 and Askari came third after beating Dastonbek Otabolaev from Uzbekistan 1-0 at the Male Kumite -75 Kg.

Poursheib took the country’s gold count to two after he defeated Jordan’s Mahmoud Sajan 1-0 in the final of the men’s -84kg weight class.

Japan claimed the title of the games, having won a gold and a silver medal more than Iran, while the hosts finished 3rd.
