Iranian Researchers Reduce Water Consumption by Up to 95%

Researchers from Abureyhan Campus of University of Tehran have created a “Plant Factory” which can reduce water usage by up to 95 percent and increase the productions 12-times more than before.

According to an ISCA report, researchers of Abureyhan Campus of University of Tehran in cooperation with Russian, Chinese and Dutch scientists could make a plant factory that reduces water usage by up to 95 %, also increase production about 12-times more than before.

The research was done by Sasan Aliniaeifard, Ph.D of Physiology and biotechnology of horticultural plant from Wageningen University, Mehdi Seif and Fardad Didaran from University of Tehran, Department of Horticultue (Abureyhan), and Mohammad Reza Khorram.

The products, made by this system, are free from pests and diseases, therefore, they can be released in the market without requiring additional operations.

The Plant Factory has been implemented with the aim of achieving more efficient agricultural production and ensuring a stable food supply by serving as hubs of research development, technological promotion, and human resource development.
