Notable Iranian Mathematician Receives Palmes Academic Award

Iranian mathematician from University of Tehran, Prof. Siamak Yassemi, has been awarded the Academic Palms (Ordre des Palmes académiques) of France.

According to an ISCA report, Prof. Siamak Yassemi, faculty member of Tehran University School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, received France Academic Palms, which is awarded to the most outstanding scientific people.

The first Order of Academic Palms was instituted in 1808 and was only awarded to the eminent professors of the University of Paris.

Since 1866, this order has been also presented to non-French personalities who have made substantial efforts to expand the scientific relationship between their country and France.

On October 4th, 1955, at the time of President Rene Coty’s presidency, a few changes were made to the procedure for awarding the above order and the selection of individuals was assigned to the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
