Iranian Researchers Create Domestic Bio-Ink

Iranian researchers have succeeded in designing dometic bio-ink in order to be applied in producing living tissue.

According to an ISCA report, bio-inks can ultimately be defined as a formulation of cells which can be processed by automated biofabrication technologies, and which may also contain biologically active biomaterials and components.

In research facilities and hospitals around the globe, advancements in 3D printing and, more particularly, bio-printing are providing new options for treatment and scientific study. In this regard, Iranian researchers could create bio-ink only by relying on the domestic technologies.

The bio-ink plays a critical role in bio-printing: first, it must be adapted to the 3D printing technology; then, it must fulfill the physicochemical and mechanical characteristics of the target construct (e.g. stiffness, elasticity, robustness, transparency). Finally it should guarantee cell viability and eventually induce a desired behavior.
