Deputy Minister: Iran Pays Off Saffron Farmers' Debts

Iranian deputy minister of Agriculture-Jihad Hossein Shirzad has announced that Iran paid off the debts of the saffron farmers.

According to an ISCA report, Hossein Shirzad, also the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Managing Director of the Central Organization of Rural Cooperatives of Iran (CORC), emphasized on the importance of supporting saffron farmers as the mainstream policy of the ministry and stated that more than 72 tons from 1036 saffron farmers have been purchased nationwide so far.

He declared that, as the main hubs of saffron cropping, farmers of Razavi, South and North Khorasan have received more than 3000 IRR billion (1$=145000 IRR) that equals 46% of the value of the harvested saffron.

As Shirzad said, debts of the South and North Khorasan farmers have been fully paid. There are 9 thousand and 502 saffron farmers in Razavi Khorasan which 44% of them have received over 2000 IRR billion.

Meanwhile, he added that the total debts of South Khorasan's farmers have been settled by payment of more than 220 IRR billion. Furthermore, the saffron farmers of the North Khorasan have received about 74 IRR billion.

"As yet, 22 purchasing centers have been developed in the above mentioned provinces, of which 18 ones in the Razavi, 3 centers in South and one center is located in the North Khorasan ", the deputy minister implied.

He finally promised for paying off the debts of farmers all across the country in near future as well.
