COVID-19 Pandemic Cancels 2020 FISU World University C’ships

As the International University Sports Federation (FISU) continues to monitor the global situation of COVID-19 pandemic closely, it has announced the cancellation of its events until 15 October 2020.

According to the FISU official website, with regard to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the FISU Steering Committee has decided to cancel some of the events in keeping with safety measures being taken around the world to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rugby Sevens from 17 to 19 September in La Plata (ARG), Sport Climbing from 17 to 20 September in Turin (ITA), Waterski & Wakeboard from 24 to 27 September in Dnipro (UKR) and Boxing from 10 to 15 October in Katowice (POL) are some of the events.

“Many countries are still facing a challenging situation due to COVID-19 and a second wave has been declared in some places,” FISU Secretary General & CEO Eric Saintrond wrote in a communication to the FISU member federations. “FISU keeps closely monitoring the evolving situation and its impact on our events. Our top priority remains the safety of all participants.”
